3-D Printing

The Clinton Public Library has a new 3-D Printer for patrons to use.  To use, please read through our 3-D Printing Rules and fill out the form linked at the bottom of the page.

The Clinton Public Library’s Maker Space operates a Creality Ender 3 V2.  Items printed will use white 1.75mm PLA Filament.  

CPL 3D Printer Policy – 

  1. 3D printers are available to library card holders to make three-dimensional objects in PLA plastic using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file.
    a. Library card account needs to be up-to-date so library staff can contact patrons when the print is complete.
  2. The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.
  3. The Library’s 3D printers may be used only for lawful purposes. The public is not permitted to use the Library’s 3D printers to create material that is:
    a. Prohibited by local, state or federal law.
    b. Unsafe, harmful, or dangerous, or that may pose an immediate threat to the well-being of others, for example, guns, knives or other lethal weapons.
    c. Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment.
  4. 3-D printed creations cannot violate another’s intellectual property rights.
    a. For example, the printer will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection.
  5. There is a materials charge of $1 per hour of the printing process.
    a. Charges will be rounded to 15 min increments of .25¢
    b. Payment must be made before the design is printed.
    c. Payment will be based on the estimated print time given by the printer at the beginning of the print.
  6. Depending on demand, length of time required for printing, and available resources, the library may limit the number of print jobs per day per person or entity. The library may refuse any print that is larger than deemed appropriate or that takes over five hours to print.
  7. Only designated Library staff have hands-on access to the 3D printer.  Files to be printed need to be sent to cpl@clintonpl.lib.in.us or submitted through the Clinton Public Library website.
    a. Design files must have an .gcode or .obj extension.
    b. Max size 7 inch X 7 inch X 9 inches tall
  8. Design software is installed on the computer in the Maker Room.  Design software can be used to create original designs.
    a. Design files must have an .gcode or .obj extension.
  9. Items not picked up within 10 days after being printed become the property of CPL. Items must be picked up by the individual who printed them or an authorized designer.
  10. The Library is not responsible for the functionality or quality of content produced on the 3D printer. No post processing will be done by staff. Reprints must be paid for if requested.
  11. Supervision of the use of the 3D printer by library staff does not constitute knowledge, or acknowledgement, of any unapparent final use of the 3D products, and the library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof.
  12. Only library materials may be used.
